The t2 team recently asked for quotes from the "Friends Who Write" contest submissions to display at ETH Berlin, and this post was originally written as a response to their prompt in t/TimeSquare.

Due to a quirk of the editing window, this got stuck in my "Drafts" - but I reached out to Wanshu, and made sure that these nominations were counted (thanks, Arweave timestamp!)

But I still wanted to make sure that everyone had a chance to see that their work had been nominated publicly - and to give other readers and writers a chance to share their favorite quotes in the comments!

When the wall was being torn down I took my companions’ hands in mine, those I had found in the corner of a dream, the back street of a story you’ve heard before. I met all of them in moments of grand splendour, the desperation on our faces suddenly outshined by the impossibility of the encounter. All of us forlorn, all of us lost children in a shopping mall, all of us in exile out of fear of suffocating. All of us aware, terrified of the steps we had to take. We saved each other because we didn’t know what to do on our own, because we couldn’t do otherwise.

The idea of the platform is to just write, engage, and earn crypto. "That can't be true... This is too good to be true." Guess who thought that. Haha. That's exactly how I reacted to it. I just didn't believe people could earn crypto for writing and interacting with folks.

“Dragons were always around, as much a part of Aesor as any other living thing. We’re all a beast of some sort, just varying in intelligence and willpower.” The weathered captain gave a toothy satisfied smile, showing off his two wooden teeth. His tunic showed green beneath a short coat. His boots planted squarely, he was seated with hands on his knees as he surveyed his audience. Eyes wide with curiosity, the children were soaking it in. “All Aesorians are in this together after all. But we didn’t really understand that back then.”

We have sat

At this table

And we made dolls out of glasses.

And we danced

Barefoot

On the broken shards of words.

- or, in the original Italian -

Ci siamo seduti

A questa tavola

Ed abbiamo fatto bambole con i bicchieri.

Ed abbiamo ballato

Sui cocci rotti delle parole.

Citizen 558 sat slumped against the dumpster in a nondescript ally in one of the outer regions. The city had a way of making you feel alone and uneasy. Abandoned avatars drifted aimlessly by, picked up by the real-ware retina overlay the citizen had picked up from one of the illegal code brokers who set up shop on the outskirts of the industrial zones. ‘Remnants’ were either selling some long out of fashion product just to interact or having conversations with their multiple AI-driven personalities their owners had once installed. “l can’t believe you would do that, if I were you, if I were you, if I were you…” one repeated vaguely to itself as it walked by, stuck on some logic loop it couldn’t close.

Here's one example of why I love Japan. There are millions of unlocked bikes parked everywhere with no guards, no thought of them being stolen. It’s wild - those bikes would all be stolen overnight in Honolulu - I have no idea where the homeless dudes that steal bikes would put them all, but every one of those millions of bikes would be gone by morning.
