As per usual I've found myself without the presence of my family for yet another Chinese New Year.

As I watched the various debates on TikTok between Asian Americans on the political correctness and cultural history of whether or not it should be called "Lunar New Year" or "Chinese New Year", I once again fell into my multiple-times-a-year identity crisis.

Beyond the meme-able "oh my god, I'm too Asian for America, too American for Asians" type commentary, there are plenty of mind-altering struggles that third culture kids face.

One simple and common example is how difficult it is to answer "where are you from" question. Having been born in New Zealand, grown up in Shanghai, lived and studied in New York for 7 years, and now living in London, how am I supposed to sum up what constitutes "home”?
