A long time ago, in North Sumatra, there was a humble farmer named Toba. One day, while fishing in the river, he caught a golden fish. To his surprise, the fish spoke! "Please don’t eat me," it begged.

Amazed, Toba agreed to spare the fish. Suddenly, the fish transformed into a beautiful woman. She revealed that she was a cursed princess. Toba fell in love, and they soon married under one condition: he must never reveal her secret.

Years passed, and they had a son named Samosir. He was a playful but lazy child. One day, Toba sent him to deliver lunch to the fields, but Samosir ate the food instead. Furious, Toba shouted in anger, "You fish child!" breaking his promise.

At that moment, the sky darkened, and a great storm began. His wife, devastated, returned to her true form and disappeared into the river. The ground shook, and water burst from the earth, flooding the village.

Toba’s home was swallowed by the water, creating Lake Toba, and in the middle of it, an island formed—now known as Samosir Island.

Moral of the Story:Respect your promises and words, for breaking them may lead to irreversible consequences.
