  • Pluto in Aquarius: The following transit, where European monarchies collapsed, giving way to a new political and social configuration based on freedom, equality, and the rise of the bourgeoisie.

Though these historical moments are distinct, both reflect how Pluto’s transits affect the collective and radically shift paradigms. If these transits have changed the world in the past, what can we expect from Pluto’s recent transit through Capricorn (2008-2023) and its entry into Aquarius (2023-2044)?

Pluto in Capricorn: The age of Materialism and Hierarchical Power

Capricorn, an earth sign ruled by Saturn, represents structure, discipline, and the consolidation of power. When Pluto transits this sign, institutions and hierarchies undergo crises, revealing their corruption and inevitable collapse.

One of the most significant moments in Hispanic American history when Pluto was in Capricorn was between 1516 and 1532, a period marked by European imperial expansion, the colonization of the Americas, and the consolidation of a geopolitical order based on monarchical dominance over colonial territories.

The arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 marked the beginning of a systematic process of conquest and exploitation of the so-called “New World.”

  • 1532: The conquest of the Inca Empire by Francisco Pizarro, solidifying Spanish dominance in the Andes.

With the fall of monarchical and clerical power, a new economic and political elite emerged, replacing feudal structures with a model based on private property and the market. During this period, a new social class was born: the bourgeoisie.

This transition also marked transformations in the world of labor. Although the Industrial Revolution had yet to begin, the shifting social dynamics set the stage for new labor models. The first seeds of the modern labor market emerged, gradually moving away from traditional forms of servitude and toward the recognition of wage labor.

200 years of Bourgeois domination

Over the past two centuries, the bourgeoisie that overthrew monarchical power reshaped the entire world, consolidating markets, business development, and private property as the pillars of the new system. Industrial capitalism, later financial capitalism, and now cognitive capitalism emerged as the new dominant structures, replacing the old monarchies with new economic elites.

From today’s perspective, it’s clear that a new hierarchical order has been reinstated—this time led by corporations and economic elites, the very forces that once drove social change during Pluto’s last transit through Aquarius (1778-1798).

Just as history has shown us the fall of the feudal and monarchical order, we are now witnessing the crisis of the current system. The economic, political, and technological structures that have dominated the world for the past two centuries are on the brink of another major transformation. Pluto in Aquarius returns to complete its cycle of destruction and renewal.

The next Pluto in Aquarius transit (2023- 2044)

We now find ourselves at the beginning of a new Pluto in Aquarius cycle, and the parallels with the past are undeniable. Just like in the 18th century, traditional power structures are collapsing in response to emerging forms of social organization driven by technology, community, and decentralization.
