Jamie and Jacinta have been friends for as long as anyone could remember. Everyone who knew them calls them “Double J” as they were inseparable. They met in school where they studied the same course and they had been friends ever since.
After their educational program, they both applied from company to company seeking employment for a long time, before they finally got one at a reputable organization.
The job also came with accommodations which was one of the things they prayed for. This made their friendship deepen as they became colleagues as well as roommates.
Things were going on well but like the saying “All good things must come to an end”. Their friendship took a nosedive when one became jealous of the other.
Their job as marketers for the company sometimes requires them to go out on advertising campaigns. Sometimes they do this together, other times they go separately in other groups.
It didn't take long before Jamie's dedication and hard work became noticed and that earned her more bonuses which she always shared with Jacinta who became envious of the fact that she is not getting as much as Jamie's.
While Jacinta is also hardworking, she is a bit temperamental which sometimes causes an impediment to her duties, she had been warned severally to always let her temper take the back seat, especially when dealing with potential clients.
Jamie kept on with the good work and getting rewards. Her good and transparent nature blinded her from seeing the change which was beginning to occur in Jacinta.
A new position was about to be open at the company where they both work and Jacinta fearing that the position might be given to Jamie began to plot for the latter's downfall.
Seeing as they both lived together, her biggest fear was for Jamie to become her boss or just slightly higher in rank than her. “Not on my watch”, Jacinta thought as she began to make plans on how to destroy Jamie’s reputation in order to render her ineligible for the position.
Jacinta began to mess with whatever project assigned to Jamie and it didn't take long for that to pose problems for Jamie who was oblivious of the fact her very good friend is responsible.
“What do I do?”Jamie asked Jacinta one day while they were both enjoying some evening fresh air outside their home.
“What do you mean?”Jacinta asked, feigning ignorance of how frustrated Jamie was feeling.
“I mean, you know how very good I am at my job”, I couldn't just understand why I keep making mistakes that have cost the company a lot”, Jamie complains, feeling frustrated to the point of almost shedding tears.
“You just have to calm your mind and take your time into doing whatever tasks or projects you have been given”, Jacinta advised while dancing in her heart knowing fully well she is succeeding in frustrating Jamie as well as making her ineligible for the position.
“You’re probably right, I would pay more attention to every single detail of my projects”, Jamie said, forcing out a smile.
Seeing as she has won and also In order for Jamie not to suspect anything, Jacinta decided to put a “pause” to her evil plans for Jamie and things were going better for a while.
One day, they both went out to shop for some groceries. There, they met a childhood friend of Jacinta who also came for shopping.
“JC?”George called knowing obviously that he'd recognize her face anywhere even though it's been many years since they last saw each other.
“Oh My God, George, Is that you?”Jacinta called back and practically ran to hug him as they exchanged pleasantries.
“Meet my friend, Jamie”, Jacinta Introduced them and proceeded to ask George about life in general.
“I can't believe we have been living in the same city for so long and never ran into each other, " George said, still surprised to see her.
After speaking for some minutes, they exchanged contacts and they both agreed to find time to catch up.
It didn't take long before George was invited to their house and he reciprocated by inviting them to his on some occasion.
This went on for some time before feelings began to develop between Jamie and George. At first they both wanted to deny it but they knew they couldn't because of the attraction they both felt for each other. Soon, they started dating.
They both figured they should inform Jacinta before she starts to put two and two together.
On the day they decided to let the cat out of the bag. They were all watching a movie in their home when George cleared his throat, alerting them of his need to speak.
“Jamie and I are together”, George said, practically ripping the bandaid off as he and Jamie had contemplated on how they would go about telling Jacinta with no avail.
“Excuse me?”Jacinta asked, not sure if she heard him correctly.
“I said, Jamie and I are dating”, George repeated again expecting to hear some squeals of happiness but all he and Jamie saw was how color drained from Jacinta's face as she kept mute, unable to say a word.
“Won't you say anything?”Jamie asked but Jacinta kept mum still.
*Wait, am I missing something here?George asked because it was clear he didn't understand why Jacinta wasn't happy for them.
“We are just friends right? Like we've always been right from when we were children. I love you like a sister and I expected you to be happy for me. So where is all this coming from?” George asked clearly, needing an explanation.
“Ain't you happy for us JC?”George asked again and that seemed to do it.
“Happy? Happy that this snake wants to keep taking and taking, leaving me with nothing left?”, George and Jamie looked at each other, completely shocked at her outburst.
Then as if that wasn't enough, Jacinta looked directly at Jamie.
“As for you, what will I have to do to you to see what a terrible person you are”, Jacinta fired at Jamie. Then like a witch who was possessed and needed to make a confession. She started talking about all she had done to hinder Jamie's work and all the problems she has been facing at work.
Jamie was completely shocked at what she was hearing coming out of Jacinta's mouth.
“When did you become like this JC?” George queried her, obviously disappointed in her. “ I knew you to be fun and loving as a child, what changed?
“I simply grew up”, Jacinta fired back.
“Do you think I was going to watch while she had it all? What about me? When will I also get my own fair share of success? Why does it always have to be her?, Jacinta shouted, pointing at Jamie.
“Don't you know that good things come to people who are genuinely happy for the success of others?”, George retorted.
All the while, Jamie opened her mouth wide in astonishment. She could never have believed that the person she called her friend was responsible for all that had been happening to her.
Someone she trusted enough to share all her secrets with and if it weren't for her relationship with George, she wouldn't have known that her best friend turned out to be the bane of her existence.
