“Mummy, Where are you? You know I'm running late”, Lakeisha called out to her mother, who is obviously still indoors making some final touches to her makeup, seeing as she got no response, she pouted and folded her arms while resting by the side of her mother's car.

“I'd be there in a minute”, her mum called back. She quickly took her bag and went outside to meet her daughter. She knows one thing her daughter dislikes is being late to school.

“I'm here baby”, she said, as she took her bag and placed it at the back seat of the car.

They both got into the car and in no time, her mum dropped her off at school before heading off to work.

Theresa watched her daughter get into the school gate safely before driving off. As she drove the short distance to work, she couldn't help but smile. She's happy, she has a beautiful family. Her husband and their 9 year-old daughter are the most important people in the world to her.

She smiled as she remembered how It is funny that a simple “let's do it” led to so much happiness for her. She never thought she would get to experience love again in this lifetime.

When Theresa met her husband, Daniel, it wasn't love at first sight. In fact, they both were reeling from a broken heart which made them both believe that love isn't for them.

They met at a bar and both shared their pains with each other, thinking they won't be seeing each other again. So they figured talking together would help relieve the pain they were feeling. It turned out that they both understood each other's pain and Daniel said something crazy about how they are the best fit to get married to each other since they've both been hurt many times than they could count.

It started off as a joke but it didn't take long before they decided “why not”. Their marriage was more of an agreement kind. It was not a commitment type but more of a companionship. They decided that to the outside world they will be married which would help get their parents off their backs and whenever they want children, they could always go for adoption.

It was a crazy idea and they both laughed at how silly it was for them to think of such, but three months later, they were both married and living together.

They were not together for the money as both of them were doing well at their respective jobs. Theresa, a realtor and her husband Daniel, a Chief Technology Officer at a reputable organization.

When they both got married, coitus was off the table for them. They both knew what they were getting into and they respected each other's privacy but they kept each other's company, always creating time to listen to the other person as the day went on. In time, they began to make time to go out to movies, sightseeing and many more.

They did this for many months and it didn't take long before feelings started to develop. But still, they never rushed it. They both took their time to know that it was what they wanted and they were glad they did because a year and half later, they welcomed Lakeisha into their home. Their own child and they love her like she's the most important person in the world. To them, she really is.

Theresa got to work and settled in. Her assistance came to inform her of a new client looking to get a new place for himself who insisted that he had to meet with her. She told her assistant to allow him into her office and to her shock. It was none other than Johnson, her ex lover who played on her heart.

Upon seeing him, the shock rendered her speechless while he walked in grinning like a fool. She quickly completed herself and asked him to sit on the chair, while she asked what his business was.

Johnson was taken aback by the sudden change in her demeanor as she spoke to him like a client and not as someone she once knew before.

He decided to play along and told her the kind of house he was looking for and the budget he had in mind.

Theresa, knowing he's probably up to no good, avoided any form of reminisces from their past and kept their discussion strictly professional. told him she would have her assistance give him all the information he requires.

Johnson kept on looking at Theresa and couldn't help but feel Jealous at what he had lost. Her pretty eyes shone even brighter, she looked way more beautiful than he saw her.

When he saw her picture from his friend who recommended her agency to him, he knew he had to see her again and hoped that maybe, just maybe feelings will be rekindled but the woman sitting across from him had no trace of the young lady who was in love with him about a decade ago. In fact she acted like she didn't know him prior to that day.

He knew right there that there was no hope for him at all. He looked at her desk and saw a picture which brought a pang of jealousy. The picture was of her family. He could see the smile on all of their faces. There was no doubt that they were so happy. It hurt him that he could never have that.

Ever since he had left her many years back, he had never had a single relationship that lasted a year. He only had women who were interested in his money, none of them were committed to him.

Now, the commitment he wanted so badly, he couldn't get it. He had lost. He left her office and told her he would get back to her but deep down he knew he is never going back there.

Theresa was happy with the way she handled seeing Johnson. “What did he think would happen after all these years?”. She was glad she found love and happiness again and he would forever remain where he ought to be. “In Her Past”.
