NoSideLoners is a two-person team born from chance online encounters and a shared passion for storytelling. Finn and Eyeroll first crossed paths in a writing club, bonding over a story rewrite that never happened but sparked a growing friendship. When Friends Who Write came along, they saw it as the perfect opportunity to push their creative limits and share their work with the world.
Meet the team members: James Finn and Uncle Eyeroll
The Origin of Friendship
Finn and I were in the same writing club about two months ago. I offered to rewrite one of his stories to demonstrate some narrative techniques, but I never did. Since then, we have kept bumping into each other online and have become friendly (dare I say, friends?). We decided to try our hands at Friends Who Write to really challenge ourselves and put our writing out there.
Behind the Name
We hail from vastly different areas, so we don't have a lot of common reference points to show that we're from the same side. So we show we aren't! Finn's been a solo act, and I'm just starting, but the NoSideLoners are alone together. Plus, it just sounds cool.
Writing Roadmap
- Eyeroll — I'm interested mostly in science fiction and fantasy; my engineering background pulls me toward the hypothetical machinery that moves swaths of adventurers through the mythical stars and seas. I also like flowery prose and try to weave that into descriptors of environments and mindsets, which has also inspired me to take a more horror-themed structure, which you can check out in t/horror on Friday!
- Finn — Finn typically writes science fiction, though lately has been trying to branch out into horror and suspense. For this month, he's taking a break from working on his novel to try and make a small alternate history series to publish in t/Sci-Fi. If you're interested in the Cold War gone hot (in space!) with retro-future vibes, be sure to stop by the territory each Friday!
