She was as calm as it could appear from the outside. Like just another girl sitting at the window seat and peacefully looking outside. Oh, how she hoped they were right. One look into her eyes was enough to see that it looked like a pond after a rock was thrown at it. She didn’t know what to think. All she knew was that she might have made a huge mistake.
“What have you done?” A voice in her head screamed. No, it wasn’t. It wasn’t her voice. It was his voice. It was Kyle’s
“Daf, talk to me” the voice said. This time it felt like he was there.
She looked around. There were only two other people on the bus. There’re usually more people at this time but apparently, rain slows down this world like a blessing.
Bus stopped at a bus stop. A guy got in and walked straight towards her. It was her boyfriend, Kyle. He was wearing a white linen shirt and rain drops were dripping from his hair. She would’ve thought that he is extra handsome at some other time but now the sight of him sent an instant shiver up her spine. He looked furious and dangerously calm at the same time. He walked quietly and sat next to her without a word.
Once he opened his mouth he didn’t look at her.
“I tried to talk to you” He said.
“Kyle, you’re scaring me” Daf’s voice was close to begging.
Her voice seemed to strike a chord in his heart. After all they were a couple.
He looked at her as his gaze softened.
“I’m sorry baby, but you do realize that you made a deal with the devil last night right?” His voice was deep.
She knew something went terribly wrong when she woke up in the morning.
“I don’t understand” she uttered.
“Where’s his little girlfriend?” It was Kyle’s father. His voice was filled with anger. He was looking at the half frozen and half fuming hot water fountain.
“Poor thing must’ve been scared. I think she has ran once she woke up. Kyle went to get her.” Lia said.
Lia was scared for her son and everything that could unfold from here on out. Yet she tried to remain calm.
David could never hold onto his anger long enough around his wife.
He took a deep breath before uttering a word again.
“He knows what this means, right? That she has to die before evil get to her and destroy everything?”
“We don’t know if it’s her for certain yet” Her words sounded closer to a prayer.
“Honey we know” David said calmly.
“ Let’s start with what you remember,” Kyle said patiently as he sat at the usual spot of the restaurant they often went to.
“What happened after we went to sleep?”
She didn’t want to come here. If they were to break up right now she didn’t know what to do with all the good memories she has here. He didn’t take her hand as usual making her feel emptier.
“Babe please” he seemed desperate.
Her eyes were blurry. She took a deep breath.
“Well I was pretty drunk and I remember going to find water. I don’t know how but sensed water in your backyard and I saw a fountain and” anxiety was getting to her in lightening speed.
He noticed and reached for her hand.
“Slowly” he said looking into her eyes.
She slowly sipped some water and tried to calm herself.
“I saw a fountain…”
She remembered that fountain vividly as it looked like moonlight was shining on thousands of shattered water drops surrounding the fountain. It glowed like jade inviting her in. Once she got closer water drops seemed to hang mid air and fairies came rushing in. A angle like creature appeared over the fountain.
“You’ve lost a companion recently” Angel said.
She was startled half because it was true and half because of this whole situation.
It was a kitten she was fostering. Poor thing hadn’t survived cruel webs of life.
“I can bring it to life if you do what I say” angel said.
She remembered agreeing at the time thinking it was a dream. Mind you she was drunk and logic was basically gibberish.
“So I did as she said. I put my face over the water and said something in a ancient sounding language and something pushed me back. Then fountain broke itself into two and a kitten and some black fumes came out of it and I think I fainted after that. When I woke up one side of it was frozen and other side was boiling. So I knew something was wrong and I wanted to get out of there” she looked into his eyes.
“Do you remember what it made you say?”
He asked.
“Not really. I’m sorry” her eyes were apologetic.
“Oh the kitten. I have to go get the kitten.” She said standing up.
“It’s okay. I’ll ask my parents to look for it” he said making her sit next to him and letting her head rest against his shoulder.
“I thought I heard you at the bus” she murmured.
“Shhh rest” He whispered
His eyes were filled with sadness and stubbornness.
