Web3 Nomads are a special breed of content creators/explorers interested in blockchain technology. Those who think “What else is out there?”
Great ideas are decentralized. Not just in different projects but also geographically.
Currently the main daddy in web3 consumer facing platforms is Ethereum and its Layer 2s. But it is still new, and it’s hard to think that better tech, better ideas, and better products won’t be built elsewhere.
We should not oversell the concept of Web3 Nomads yet as we are still very early, given that we think about a global internet of blockchain and major interoperability between them.
We have begun to see some interoperability, but it has mostly remained within the same protocol or ecosystem. But NOT across ecosystems. Ecosystems remain siloed although few have stated real interoperability in their roadmap.
A clear example of there NOT being interoperability yet, is the number of wallets one has to have to operate in multiple blockchains. Metamask for Ethereum and its layer 2s, Phantom for Solana, Yoroi for Cardano, Nova for Polkadot, you get the point. And not to speak of the constant bridging of funds to do anything. We need to solve that.
A collector of art operating mostly on Polkadot should not have to go and create a new wallet and an account on a specific marketplace on an ETH L2 to be able to collect something. It should be permissionless and interoperable.
So, again, we are really early as web3 nomads. The world of blockchains does not support us yet. But we are dreaming up that world with the hopes that it gets built.
A great example of interoperability is ENS (Ethereum Name Service). In your ENS settings you can set it up so that it becomes your wallet address for any blockchain you decide to add and accept payment from.
More projects should be built with ecosystem interoperability in mind so that we can all participate and support the great ideas that will be decentralized throughout all the different blockchain ecosystems in the world.
So go out there and explore. The internet of blockchains is a thing, and true interoperability will set it free.
