I want to invite everyone who feels curious about their surroundings: about that tree that surprises you with its size, those mushrooms you saw growing on a dead trunk, or the scent in the air when the rain falls. To you who have a scientist inside, because it is well known that we are all born with innate curiosity.

At DeSci México, we want to tell you that you are the ones who fuel and empower science. Your questions and knowledge contribute to this infinite network of knowledge. For us, using our expertise in specific scientific fields makes us happy, but being able to translate that language into something everyone can understand moves and excites us.

That is why we invite you to participate in this adventure of writing and learning, where together with the scientific community—biologists, scientists, programmers, web3 enthusiasts, and knowledge seekers—we will read and write articles about the latest developments and questions in scientific progress.

We are a small community that is growing with the help of people like you. Our areas of work and expertise include:

  • Microbiology: Diversity, applications, genetics.
  • Paleontology: Fossils.
  • Programming.
  • Neuroscience and Neurotechnology.
  • Female Reproductive Health.
  • Ecology and Evolution.
  • General Biology.
  • Biochemistry.
  • Animal and Plant Physiology.
  • Astrobiology.
  • Physics.
  • History of Science: Debating and unraveling the thoughts and experiments from different eras that have enabled the current state of scientific advancement.

Our goal is to be a community committed to conveying to the general population what is happening in the field of science. We aim to guide and support the development of habits and an appreciation for reading about these advancements that involve all of us. Additionally, we seek to expand these articles into our mother tongue, Spanish, and subsequently include predominant dialects in our country such as Nahuatl, Maya, Mixtec, and Zapotec. We aim to empower and motivate speakers of these languages to promote their language and their knowledge in scientific areas in which they are accustomed and live empirically and practically.

My name is Pamela Limón. From a young age, I had contact with animals and elements of nature that allowed me to better connect with what would become my vocation later on. I grew interested in the effects of enteogens on the brain and initiated short research projects in my high school Literature classes, teaching the importance of exploring these natural options for the treatment of neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. However, I was truly interested in everything that is alive, visible or not. That is why I began my journey in the field of biology. Later, I wrote and participated in science outreach events that only remained as physical posters and subsequently fell into oblivion. For a long time, I wondered how to extend this line of work to many sectors of the population. It was then that, on the recommendation of a friend known as Ariutokintumi, who told me about DeSci and brought me brochures and merchandise from this movement, that I began my research and career in DeSci. It has been almost a year since we created the community, and we continue to encourage more minds to join so that science takes its place in the social and global structure.

Because besides learning Science, you learn programming, marketing, editing, writing, and a myriad of skills you might never have thought to acquire.

DeSci seeks to empower scientists and knowledge holders to actively participate in research projects and commit to their dissemination. Directed towards this goal, we are striving to enhance inclusion and expand areas that are rarely seen in traditional science.

We invite you to participate and collaborate in this bootcamp and, in general, in this mission with us.
