The Tale of the Lost Bitcoin Pizza
Back in 2010, when Bitcoin was still in its infancy and worth just a few cents, a developer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by completing the first-ever real-world Bitcoin transaction. He wanted to prove that Bitcoin could be used for something tangible, so he posted on a forum, offering to pay 10,000 Bitcoins for two large pizzas. At the time, this was worth about $41.
A fellow forum member took up the offer, and soon Laszlo was happily munching on his pizzas, probably thinking he’d made a good trade. After all, he had just paid for food using a brand new digital currency! The transaction was so significant that May 22nd is now celebrated as "Bitcoin Pizza Day" in the crypto community.
Fast forward a few years, and those 10,000 Bitcoins? Well, at Bitcoin’s peak, they were worth around $600 million. That's right, $600 million for two pizzas. Laszlo went down in history, but not for the reason he might have expected. He’s forever known as the guy who spent millions on pizza.
The moral of the story? Hold onto your crypto... unless you’re really, really hungry!
