Web3 has totally flipped the script for so many of us. It's not just about work; it's a whole new way of living—a chance to ditch the 9-to-5 grind, forget about geographic limits, escape the corporate rat race, and find a community that really gets you. This space is perfect for creatives who want to fully dive into their passions without stressing thinking about what’s next. YOLO!
Artists, writers, DJs, musicians—you name it—creatives from all walks of life have taken the plunge, leaving behind the conventional for a chance to play in this ever-evolving digital playground. It’s not always smooth; navigating new tech and cultural shifts can be tricky. But with the challenges come boundless opportunities, bringing up fresh ways to create and connect. LATASHÁ, a multifaceted music artist, messenger, world builder, and a mix of both villain and hero, embodies this shift. Long before Web3 became something, she had already broken free from the constraints of a typical corpo life. Now, she’s kicking it into Web3, not as a “Web3 artist,” but as an artist harnessing these new tools to build her own path to sovereignty. It’s a move many outside the crypto space might not fully understand, but there’s no denying that the creative freedom it offers is something to envy.
I recently caught up with the LA-based diva to chat about her latest on-chain release, 'A TEN,' a groovy, hip-hop-inspired track and music video all about living the dream, bringing hope, and breaking away from society’s expectations. The music video is mintable now, and Lens Protocol had a big hand in bringing it to life.
Hi LATASHÁ, what musical and artistic influences have shaped your career, and how have they specifically influenced the creation of this music video?
My artistic influences transcends depending on the dimension I’m in. Currently I am in my electronic, indie, dance, house era with a mix of industrial, Jersey Club, Chicago and London energy. I’ve been listening to alot of dance Bass, Baile Funk, and whatever tickles my joy mixed with Hip Hop.
As for the influence towards the music video, I like for my music video to juxtapose the sound of the song a lot of times. So for this video instead of doing the obvious club dance video, I decided to play off my story working in corporate america and wanting to tear it up.
The title of this release, 'A TEN,' is quite intriguing. Can you tell us more about how you chose it and what it represents?
The song title ‘A TEN’ flowed to me. I don’t remember when I wrote this song, but I know it came to me quickly one night in my garage. At the time I was watching a lot of voguing videos online and I think subconsciously the “10 10 10” signs marked something in my brain to write that into the song.
As for the video, I did this interesting meta thing where I didnt think the song and the video goes together and later finds out it does. When I used to be a 9-5 working girl, I always wanted to get out and be the star I knew I was meant to be, and in my mind I would imagine myself being “A 10” and I think it all made sense.
What was the initial inspiration behind this project?
The initial inspiration for the video came from years of working corporate and hating it.
Like so many artists, we end up working these 9-5 jobs daydreaming about our visions of being creators, touring the world etc. The character in the video is a past version of me in realization that I no longer want to be in this place…but I am stuck in a loop chasing myself.
The themes of self-belief, financial and creative freedom, and breaking free from office work are central here. How do these topics resonate with your personal journey and artistic vision?
These themes really speak to my journey. I've had to stay true to myself and push past a lot of barriers to get where I am. Financial and creative freedom are everything to me because they let me create the life I want without limits. ‘A TEN’ is about breaking out of those boxes—whether it’s a 9-to-5 or society’s expectations—and stepping into your full power. It's a reminder that I can shape my destiny and do what I want despite the matrix or no matter what anyone says.
Can you give us a glimpse into your creative process for ‘A TEN’ ? How did you weave all these themes into your music and visuals?
My creative process was all about bringing those themes to life in a real way. I started by making sure the music and bars captured that energy of breaking through and knowing my power. From there, the visuals flowed naturally—I wanted to tell the story of being stuck in a reality and then saying fuck the system.
I focused on creating scenes that reflect that shift from feeling confined to fully owning your space. The video is meant to highlight a piece of who I once was. My goal was to inspire anyone watching to begin to realize their own loops and matrix and to break into their own power and what’s possible when you decide to boost up your vision.
How did the collaboration with Lens Protocol come about and what drew you to work with them specifically for this video?
The collaboration with Lens Protocol happened pretty naturally. I’ve been involved in the tech space for a while, and I’m always interested in working with platforms that share my values. Lens really stood out to me because they focus on giving creators more control over their content and community, which is something I’m passionate about.
When it came to this video, I wanted to work with a partner who really understood the importance of creative freedom and doing things differently. Lens Protocol was a perfect match because they’re all about breaking away from the traditional norms, just like I am with my music and visuals. It just made sense to team up and create something that not only highlights the themes of ‘A TEN’ but also represents the future of how artists connect with their audience.
Family Wallet is also partnering on this video, and there are a few easter eggs hidden in it. Can you tease us with what viewers should look out for?
Just a little peak of me setting up some financial freedom. -winks-
You've been active in the crypto and Web3 space for a while now. How has this involvement influenced your music and your creative approach?
Being in that space has really expanded my visions for myself and what is possible. It’s given me more control over my music, distribution and how I connect with my audience, which really heals so much for me as a creative.
The focus on decentralization and creator empowerment in Web3 aligns with my vision of creative sovereignty, pushing me to experiment more with my sound, visuals, and how I share my art. It’s opened up new worlds and inspired me to think more innovatively about my entire process.
What challenges did you encounter during the production of this music video, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges during the production of this music video was balancing the creative vision with the realities of budget and time constraints. We had big ideas for the visuals, and it wasn’t always easy to bring them to life within the limits we had. To overcome this, we had to get really resourceful—finding ways to maximize what we had, whether it was repurposing short ideas or cutting others out. The team was so flexible and determined which played a huge role in making it all come together.
Gotta just stay focused cause the best part is seeing the end result, which was to create something that truly captured the essence of what I wanted the ‘A TEN’ story to be, and that kept us pushing forward even when things got tough.
For artists who are exploring financial and creative freedom through Web3 tech, what key advice would you offer based on your own experiences?
My advice would be to stay curious, use all the tools in both Web2 and Web3 and be willing to learn as you go. The space is still young and evolving, so it’s important to keep up with the changes and explore how different platforms can work for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment and take risks—this space is all about breaking away from norms, so use that to your advantage. Also, build a strong community around your vision; Web3 is heavily community-driven, and having a supportive network can open up a lot of opportunities.
Finally, stay true to yourself and your values—this technology is just one of many tools to help you achieve, so make sure it aligns with who you are as an artist.
Looking to the future, are there any upcoming projects or collabs that you're excited about?
All I’ll say is I’m here for the “CHAOS”.
