A farmer saved his wife from the flood, but his child was drowned.
Afterwards, people were talking about it. Some said he did the right thing because children could be born again, but wives couldn't come back to life. Some said he did the wrong thing because wives could be remarried, but children couldn't come back to life.
After listening to people's discussions, I also felt puzzled and couldn't decide: If only one person could be saved, should it be the wife or the child?
So I went to visit the farmer and asked him what he was thinking at that time.
He replied, "I didn't think about anything. When the flood came, my wife was by my side. I grabbed her and swam towards the nearby hillside. When I returned, the child had been washed away by the flood."
On my way back, thinking about the farmer's words, I said to myself: If the farmer had hesitated a little at that time, maybe neither of them could have been saved.
