And essentially an amazingly succinct history of recording all (almost - no sus and aug) chords on the guitar.
Where 1 is the starting point of the tonic of a chord, and then the steps go on to build any chord: sept, majors, minor, semi-reduced, diminished, diminished, and on and on.
There's no sus2-4 story here, but the matter is temporary.
How interesting, every chord is a 3x or 4x voicing (+-), basically a set of sound waves. And knowing this basic code, you can build any chord based on tonic - the basic wave in the tonality.
A set of principles giving universal opportunities for expressing beautiful emotions and meanings through music. Transmission of information, packaging, through a single universal way of recording. For some reason I didn't realise this until I went deep into the study of music theory to pump up my guitar skills.
I'll be honest, the universe opened up for me. You come to a country, they say "domajore with a sept accent", you just go "aaah -" and then you're on your way. Of course, there's a lot more to harmony, scales, harmonies and so on. But the world won't be the same.
It took me 24 years to comprehend in practice with live fingering all this beauty. What can I say - it's a thrill!
