Something I wrote to celebrate Nigeria's Independence (October 1st) last year, I just felt like dropping this here.
_Nigeria my beloved country,
The land of my predecessors, my very own first love.
A people of coloured and sun bashed skin.
Akin to love, akin to war.
Willing to live and willing to die,
Through times of slavery through times of war.
_Gold in our blood and coal on our skin,
Blessed with the wilderness and the wildlife within.
Gifted our cultures by our ancestors before us.
Rich in greener pastures, and strengthened in diversity
My father land indeed.
Through times of colonization, through times much worse.
_Green, White, Green, one Eagle and two Horses.
Plentiful in minerals, with resources in abundance.
Various ethnicities, closely knit together.
We are one, Though not from one mother.
United we stand, divided we fall.
Through times of peace, through times of love.
_Independence we scream on the first of October,
Heroes have fought and heroes have died,
Our flag we raise on the blood of them all.
The pride of our fathers and joy of our mothers.
The giant of Africa, admired by all.
Through time of good, through times of bad.
_And as you clock another year, on the first of October
May your days be long and spent in good health.
With tears in my eyes and memoirs in my hands,
Reminiscing about the past, the journey do far.
We say thank you to God, for everything thus far.
Through times of thick, through times of thin.
_And someday this country will be better than it ever was.
Surely a time will come, when we will walk hand in hand,
Sons of one father, Daughters of one mother.
Just like I saw in my dream yesterday night.
_And one last thing, when I die bury me in this soil where my ancestors have rested since before I was born.
Because "na we get am"
