The ever present hum was a constant. A reminder that all was well and operating as needed to. The lone habitant could tell what was occurring in the facility based on the hum. It looked up and tilted its head as if listening deeper. The hum had changed, ever so slightly. Very similar to about 20 cycles ago when the system had an intrusion vessel.
The figure cycled through the screen displays until it found the one that matched the new hum. Another vessel at the far end of the system.
The hum changed again.
Looking further into the display details and finding the hum match, a transmission on what the figure would consider as defunct technology. It was similar to the hum communication it used, but a few steps lower in technological advancement.
The figure pondered, adjusting the hum cycles to try to intercept this transmission. What should have been an easy job took longer than expected. It managed to catch the few ending parts of the transmission between two voices.
One such voice was off sounding whereas the other was smoother like the hum. The figure made sure to record the transmission or further study and translation work.
The figure then moved on to trace the other origin point of the transmission. Slowly working through the hum cycles to pinpoint the location. Once located the figure sent a hum command to have a scout sent to check for what was in the system that shouldn’t be.
