You do not remember dying you tell HER. You were driving back home from the airport, SHE had come to pick you up herself, even though you insisted on driving back home, SHE had declined. A lot of my friends died but I do not remember dying you tell HER again.

The car in front of you stops abruptly, the door opens and a woman in a black dress climbs out to buy oranges from a kiosk on the other side of the street gutter, a little girl attends to her, she looks seven, thin and as fair as the oranges she sold. You look into HER eyes and say to her “That little girl reminds me of Daniel’s daughter. He is dead, a bullet went through his skull as his lifeless body fell upon my numb self, I was not shocked but I had expected the bullet to go through me.”

You remember being stranded behind enemy lines for three days, no food, no water, no ammo. You all risked your lives for a losing game, your command was to “bring home the bodies of the previous squad” but you did not expect to bring home the bodies of your squad instead.

“Daniel was a good man” you said, he always had something to say about his daughter, he loved her more than he loved himself. The woman in black dress got the oranges and entered into the car. Half a minute later the car roared to life and zoomed off. Probably she is the owner of the car and had obviously employed a driver, although you wondered why the driver did not come down to buy the oranges, maybe because she was closer to the kiosk, you thought.

SHE moved the car forward stopped, and glanced at you, the kiosk was in full view now, but you looked away and decided not to buy oranges from the girl. SHE let her hand rest above yours for a moment, sighed and continued to drive.

The traffic was a little overbearing, you stole glances at HER in quick successions and marveled at how SHE was able to keep a straight face, most ladies would not be able to control their emotions not to talk about driving. You knew SHE had always been strong, stronger than you but… after what seemed much longer than it was, SHE drove into the garage, parked the car and got out before you could say a word, you came out picked your bag and walked into the house after HER, SHE slumps into a couch looking a little tired and you sit opposite HER. By the time you were done telling HER everything, you realize it is already evening, you decide to take her out to ease the tension, “she’d listened with rapt attention” you thought.

After a few drinks, you decide to go home and you asked her to walk home with you, you’d come pick the car in the morning, SHE nodded avoiding your eyes, “apart from refusing to allow you to drive home from the airport earlier today, she’d agreed to everything you’d said” you thought, the last thing SHE told you was “There was no war” after that SHE held your gaze for long, long enough to make you dizzy. The last thing that came across your mind was that you were going to adopt Daniel's daughter before you faded out.

A gentle breeze blew the curtain apart and golden streaks of light hit your face, awoken with a start you were momentarily blind, it was then you realized that you had slept for too long.
