Little Trawler
Little trawler’s ferrying a piece of me,
far away into obscurity.

“This is good for you”, the wise ones speak.
Little trawler’s got a piece of me.

Nurtured it I did,
held onto that bit
of me close,
like a babe to my bosom.
So close … when did it blossom?
I don’t know.

“Let it go”, the wise ones tell.
No! (How do I bid thee farewell?)

I acquiesce.
.
Little trawler’s now ferrying my horrors away,
Far, far away into obscurity.

Look! I am still whole!

Daisies On A Hat
Six year old Johnny is a thief.
(He had to be one, to eat and feed!)
He brought me a bunch of sunshine daisies.
“Oh Johnny! Did you steal?”

“Yes ma’am!” He was shy,
and he was just a little bold.
“From the church garden at Rover Road.”
“No, darling”, I knelt to gently scold.

“Don’t worry, God isn’t mad.”
Blushing peach, he touched my hand.
“I told God they’re for an angel’s hat.”

Forty-Nine Candles
I’ve aged in years …

Hormones matured, and shut my noise.
Shh! My body speaks,
I hear its voice
for the first time; I hear the beat
of my breath -
a smooth rasping pulled into my bloodstream.
Then a long, gentle out
of my pursed mouth.

Forty-nine candles quiver, and they ripple,
then fade out.
.
I’ve aged in years.
How refreshing, O fearless!
I am new born,
learning to love,
learning to live.

Hey there! Often, I half close my eyes to “see” shapes or patterns or stories in routine objects. I bag it as “day-dreaming” but psychologists have a mighty word for it - “pareidolia”. I am using my solutions to the daily Wordle game to tempt me to see patterns in them and use them as prompts to write anything instinctively, without judgement - could be just a line too!
