A popular 13-year-old rescue cat has been found 'decapitated' just yards away from its rehoming shelter in what has been described as a 'barbaric attack'.

The feline was discovered headless just outside the perimeter of Oldham Cats rescue shelter in Greater Manchester by a neighbour on Thursday morning.

The animal's microchip confirmed it to be a tabby cat named Poppy, which had arrived at the shelter in 2019 but had not been taken in by a new owner.
