Request:
we may consider targeted outreach to experts from the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) (under the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, DCCEEW) prior to these meetings to gather relevant insights. Priority should be given to contacting: ✓ Current AAD officials (institutional roles) ✓ External contractors or affiliated think-tank experts (if direct AHD contacts are unavailable) ✓ International researchers with AAD collaboration experience.
Background:
Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) is scheduled to take place in Milan, Italy, from June 23 to July 3, 2025. Two China-related agenda items are expected to draw significant international attention: ① China’s proposed Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) around Kunlun Station has repeatedly failed to gain approval at previous ATCMs due to political opposition from Western countries, including the US and Australia. Negotiations on this issue are anticipated to continue at this session. ② China’s new research station under planning, Qiaokao Station, is scheduled for discussion during the meeting.
