Real Madrid football club was founded in 1902. Initially the club was called "Madrid Football Club". In 1920, King Alfonso XIII of Spain granted the club the title of Real Madrid, which means "royal" in Spanish.

Real quickly became one of the leading clubs in Spain, winning their first trophy, the Copa del Rey, in 1905. From the 1950s, the team began to dominate European football, becoming the first winner of the European Cup in 1956. Led by legends such as Alfredo Di Stefano and Francisco Gento, the club won numerous titles.
